Girl gamers get their own gathering
LONDON GAMES FESTIVAL Fringe is an all inclusive occasion which can in no way be called sexist, as the event holds the first "Grl Gmr Tournament."
That's Girl Gamers Tournament for the minority who still can't decipher text message language - a tournament open to all female gamers, held on 25th this month at London Metropolitan University.
Fiona French from the Faculty of Computing at the University said, "We would like to see more girls and women applying for our courses; this is an opportunity to promote London Metropolitan University as a vibrant and welcoming environment for young women."
This female only event will kick-off the week long games festival dedicated to all that is game and interactive entertainment focused.
The Grl Gmr Tournament will take place over half-term and was put together by staff from the BSc Computer Games and BA Game Studies, in conjunction with Gamelab London.
The girl-power challengers will battle it out over five different games - Wii Tennis, Tekken, Unreal Tournament, Kuri Kuri Mix and Mario Kart.
After the female feud has ended, five winners will be named - but only one Champion will be crowned Queen of the Consoles.

This club discriminates against males and as such it is in violation of the UK Sex Discrimination Act of 1975 and several EU council directives on the matter. If I were from the UK I'd file a complaint against this club and demand an injunction against their lawless behavior.
No boys allowed and it can in no way be called sexist? The hypocrisy of feminists will never cease to amaze me...

And why would you name a girls-only tournament "Grl Gmr" .. Are all girls stupid, air-headed idiots who do not know how to spell girl gamers??
Lest you forget men for hundreds of years have owned exclusive rights to many, many events, clubs, businesses etc. So when there’s anything that has 'girls only' written on it the masses of whiney sausage clubs out there have the audacity to cry foul. You guys are really pathetic and just so there’s no confusion, yes I am a guy.
Sheesh, you guys need help. It's a contest to promote more women getting educated at the specific university. And the author is correct, it's no more "sexist" than a contest for "best male singer in London". Being a gender-specific way of encouraging more women to get educated hardly qualifies as sexism. Sexism is discrimination based on the belief that the other gender is inferior--this isn't even approaching that level. As for the "hypocrisy of feminists", I doubt the movement is burning Man. U or Chelsea flags because they have no female players on their men's teams. Sheesh, seriously, grow a set guys. .
Did anyone else realize that making the club 'no boys allowed' is sexist? I figured no one else picked up on that, so I figured I'd post it here to clue you all in.
Just check out the UK police "equal opportunity events". Everyone invited except the white male. All in the name of equality though. The very fact the police have race, and "sex" (pardon the pun), targets alone is discriminate.
Don't you get it? Girl gamers are a very small group right now. Giving them a chance to grow and prosper means more girl gamers to in the dating pool. As guys, we should recognize girl gamers as a precious resource. Think of this like a wildlife preserve. Let the flock grow and prosper and we will all be the better.
Indeed this is quite pathetic. If I were to organise a male only event of any kind (no..not THAT kind :-/) then there would be some serious trouble and dont you know it! yet they are allowed to get away with it. Somone sould make a white's only gaming event, or perhaps a Muslim's only event. you may think that sounds rediculus but thats exactly what this is.
They're just going to be playing the Sims all day aren't they?... this will destroy conventional gaming in a way that could never have been predicted, just as the Wii destroyed consoles
Not sexist, If it were male only feminists everywhere would pounce on it and would have thier knickers in a twist. I have no problem tho, as long as there is a huuuge pillow fight.......and its on youtube.

I think they should pay a fine of stripping down and letting all the guys who weren't allowed in to see them naked! Hahahaha. Really I don't care as long as we men can have our men only clubs and they don't say that's sexist.

For clarification, boys and men are very welcome at this event; we are hoping for some alternative cheerleading...
