Google buys anti-malware outfit

SEARCH ENGINE outfit Google has bought GreenBorder Technologies, a venture-backed company that peddles browser virtualisation security software.

The company will mean that Google has a piece of technology to block Web-based exploits on Internet Exploder and Firebadger.

GreenBorder's software creates a zone between the Windows desktop and programs downloaded from Web pages or opened from e-mail messages in Microsoft Outlook. The outfit only sold two versions of the sandbox software before the Google acquisition and will not sell any more.

According to ZD Net Google will rebrand and release GreenBorder's software as a free download or as an addition to the Google Toolbar.
