Hitachi gets out of DRAM, Elpida

GIANT JAPANESE firm Hitachi will sell its stake in Elpida which means it will effectively get out of DRAM.

Elpida, according to the Japan Times, was created when Hitachi and NEC decided to pool their DRAM interests in 1999. Hitachi currently has a 10 per cent share in Elpida but the paper said it will flog these off over a period of time.

Last month Hitachi sold its Singapore semi unit to government sponsored foundry Chartered Semiconductor.
