ARS TECHNICA has been annexed by Condé Nast and is now part of Wired Digital, albeit one with the freedom to operate independently without having to slither to master and cringe in fear whilst awaiting new orders.
Condé Nast also revealed that Webmonkey and Hotwired.com are going to be reanimated by means of devilish sorcery and will also come under the aegis of Wired, after they were snatched from the dark crypts of Lycos.
Webmonkey featured tutorials on how to create websites, back in ancient times before broadband was invented and people listened to odd hisses and bleeps when their dial-up modems connected to the ethereal realm in the parallel dimension somewhere between copper cables. [Get on with it - Ed]
Ars Technica used to like beOS and its new masters assure us it is 'highly regarded for producing insightful, opinionated tech news and analysis for its loyal and growing audience.'
"We welcome Ars Technica to Wired Digital and Condé Nast, as we believe this fantastic site allows us to accelerate our expansion by tapping into a vital and sophisticated community. Wired Digital can now provide a network of highly trafficked technology sites that attract an engaged, tech-savvy reader," said a spokes Ars.
Allegedly, the combined sites of Wired Digital now reach close to 19 million unique visitors per month, claims the outfit. µ
I don't know who this Nast is, but Ars Technica will be carefully scrutinized by thousands of bearded eyeballs who will no doubt cry havoc and let slip the dogs of blogdom is ever the teeniest change in editorial freedom is detected. So I have one word of friendly advice for the Nast boardroom : if you wish to quell any nascent nastiness, you would do well to leave your hands off the Ars. Is that clear, or do I have to get my pitchfork ?
Don't forget CN bought Reddit.. Ask them how the acquisition and post-acquisition went..
Who's this "Condé Nast" bloke again? Never heard of him.
