Intuit slashes jobs

Accountants rule

ACCOUNTANCY SOFTWARE outfit Intuit is cutting seven per cent of its work force as part of a re-organisation of the troubled company.

The purveyor of Turbo Tax and the personal finance software Quicken says more than 575 jobs will go.

Targeted are the outfit's back-office operations, but an Intuit spokesman said the company wanted to focus toward developing new business.

It will cost the company $22 million to make all the changes and then the company could develop new desktop and online services.

Apparently the company also thinks it can do more in the area of social notworking. Would have thought a Facebook for accountants would be a bit like a rock concert for house bricks. µ
