ST signs up with NXP to form wireless joint venture

Alphabet soup of wirelessness

IN A MOVE which will have hearts beating and pulses racing, STMicroelectronics and NXP Semiconductor have confirmed they are hooking up to form a joint venture wireless company.

The new company, ST-NXP Wireless will apparently combine all the mobile and wireless bits from each company into one big European mega wireless company, focusing on 2G, 2.5G, 3G, multimedia connectivity and wireless technologies. And as if to prove that the news is actually one big snore, the companies have decided to set up HQ for ST-NXP Wireless in that most electrifying of cities, Geneva.

Boasting $3 billion in combined revenues, both companies reckon they have what it takes when it comes to being the new big boys on the block for investing in, researching and developing new wireless technologies. Also, as the saying goes, two heads are better than one, and especially when it comes to back-end manufacturing, marketing, sales and design. The fact that both companies also have some fairly fab wafer fabs doesn’t hurt either.

Unable to control his excitement, Alain Dutheil ST-NXP Wireless’ new CEO gushed "Our new company will be uniquely positioned to continue and extend customer relationships with the key players in the mobile and wireless industry ."

Verily is our gast flabbered. µ

Geneva

The reason why they picked Geneva in Switzerland is because Switzerland is surrounded by EU but is not part of it and is basically a tax haven for corporations.

Switzerland was about to appear of official US list of tax havens.
