Xbox 360 outsells PS3 in Japan

Console round-up Flood of crap on Wii
Monday, 18 August 2008, 09:24

ALL THREE CONSOLE manufacturers saw a decline in sales during July of 2008.

According to NPD, Nintendo's Wii once again won the contest against the PS3 and Xbox 360 and outsold each one by a margin greater than 2:1.

555,000 Wiis is a down-turn on the 667,000 units the company sold in June. Sony sold 225,000 PS3s, down from 406,000 in June, whilst the Xbox 360 dropped to 205,000 from 220,000.

PS3/PSP
FCC pictures have confirmed a PSP redesign, the 3001 SKU, with limited differences.

Sony has reconfirmed the PS3's PlayTV date and price - it will arrive on September 19th for £69.99.

Sony will not be planning any PS3 price cuts at the Leipzig games fair this year, according to Reuters.

Xbox 360
Microsoft is allegedly readying a web-based interface to the Xbox's online store that is currently only accessible via the console interface.

Michael Pachter has proclaimed demand for the platform to be "stagnant." Rumors have continued to be floated that Microsoft is to further cut prices across its SKUs - a move that UBS analyst Ben Schachter believes would have a "significant impact."

In one of the odder events of the year, the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 2.5 to 1 in Japan week ending August 10th, shifting 25,000 units.

Wii/DS
Sega of America president Simon Jeffery has come out and declared that he believes there is a 'flood of crap' coming out for the Wii.

"...If it's not a good game, it doesn’t sell. That flood of crap will die down as publishers become more coherent."

The Wii has finally got DVD playback - but from a hack, not Nintendo.

By installing a small, hidden channel on the system, this package enables the console with a DVD library, and allows you to watch your videos with the Mplayer application, an open source media player.

Joystiq has a video tutorial on the subject. µ

What Do U Expect?

Of course the 360 will sell more as Tales Of Vepseria came out in Japan for 360 only and not PS3 as well. Microsoft with the idea of a PC based store is another copy from Sony, I'm sorry but I feel Microsoft have nothing left new, instead might as well copy off the rivals. Avatars = Mii's, Dashboard = Wii, Avatar comm gaming in groups = PS3 Home, So called Motion sensor pad = Wii & PS3. They need to come out with something new an idea of there own not copying off someone and changing so they can't be sued. 1 thing I am hoping is that the next XBOX isnt rushed and built better than the 360. (Yes I do own all 3 consoles)

Urgh...

It's funny with the commanding head start that the 360 has on the ps3 you post this. I don't see a post saying. Ps3 outsold xbox 360 for 7 months straight in america. Not 1. Ms sold more due to time exlusive from square. The japan's would buy anything if it came out from square. If u stuck ff14 on a iphone exclusivly and then bundled it, it would outsell the wii in japan for that month probibly. thing is this is kinda 1 way journalism, Because the 360 has never faired well in the area you report this but when the ps3 was eating microsofts dust last year you would report it. I dont understand the bais. I think that sony outselling the 360 should be in this article or have its own. its only fair. The 360 didnt conquer like ms thought. The ps3 has continued to outsell it from january to now in america, but because ms ships 20000 more units in one month over there u are all excited. Thats crap.

Some confusion...

The top part of the article refers to US numbers over June. The part which Xbox 360 outsells the PS3 in Japan is within the Xbox 360 sub heading - which is refered to in the article heading.
