Internet growth slows
Still growing though
INTERNATIONAL INTERWIBBLE traffic is growing at a slower rate than before, according to figures released by TeleGeography Research.
The findings show that traffic grew 53 per cent from mid-2007 to mid-2008, down from a growth rate of 61 per cent last the year before.
Growth in the US was slower than the rest of the world, at 47 percent. The big increase came in regions where the Internet is less mature.
International Internet capacity increased 62 percent and generally Internet traffic now uses just 29 percent of the available bandwidth.
Apparently the only reason bandwidth is being stretched at all is because of the increasing demand for online video.
Which makes recent calls for capping of bandwidth by leading ISPs seem a bit unnecessary. µ

"Unnecessary" is the word for sure. These caps are more about ISP's throwing their toys out of the pram than it is about network management. Little babies.... should have spent the money on upgrading the net in the first place instead of giving all the money to the CEO.
