CONFIDENTIAL DATA on 30 million German phone users was put up on the World Wide Wibble until DT took it down.

DT said that it had now managed to secure the data, which included bank accounts, relating to its clients. Apparently it had been easy to download.

Deutsche Telekom admitted a week ago that it had lost confidential data belonging to 17 million T-mobile clients in an earlier incident.
Currently that loss – which happened in 2006 and involved telephone numbers, dates of birth, addresses and email addresses – is being looked at by a judicial inquiry.

A spokesman said that, in that incident, bank details were not attached, and that "according to our information, even though these details have been put up for sale on the black market, there has not been a buyer".

Since then, data security procedures had been improved although quite how the details of 30 million phone users ended up on the net the spokesman did not say. µ
